Welcome!
: Senior Scoops, A Blog for SeniorsSeveral weeks ago I announced on my other blog, retiredlifebymcgeno.com , that I was back and ready to resume writing. It was the 12th anniversary of my son’s passing and I wanted to do something to honor him-I hope I did him and the occasion justice.
Having completed that post I began to question how I wanted to proceed.
Until then my content had primarily been either sentimental, or quasi-political — heavy stuff. Did I want to continue on this social-analytic, self-reflective path? Or, move on to something easier on the conscience?
It has always been in the back of my mind to write a light-hearted blog for seniors. A forum to address issues and challenges facing us baby boomers as we reach our golden years. And so, Senior Scoops was born.
I hope to make it fun, engaging and therefore entertaining.
Here is the roadmap
1. I will be featuring articles on hobbies, such as woodworking, golf, crafts, and other activities aging baby boomers enjoy. Staying busy is an important part of senior life.
2. When we relax, my team of expert reviewers (my wife and I) watch a range of movies and TV shows and read a fair amount of books. We are always looking for hidden gems on Netflix and the bookshelf. I will let you know what we think is worth watching or reading, and what is not
3. For those passionate about travel, I will be sharing travel tips and advice, while highlighting some of the destinations we have visited. Travel can be a daunting prospect for seniors, but I want to show my readers that it’s never too late to explore new places and have new experiences.
4. Social Media is a zoo. I will give you my thoughts on its absurdities.
5. I will share a financial tip or two I have learned along the way. I am by no means a financial advisor, I will simply share the strategies that have served me well. I will also write about several side hustles I have tried and how they worked out.
Not everyone has a golden parachute.
Let’s face it, everyone does not arrive in our latter years with a seven-figure portfolio. As helpful as money is, it is not everything. A fulfilling, happy retirement can be had without all the bells and whistles that riches will bring. Senior Scoops will focus on how to do it with a little less. There are so many low-cost fulfilling pursuits that we can all enjoy.
Let’s do it
As we build a community around these topics and concepts your input will be vital, I hope all who relate will take the time to share with me and the community their thoughts and ideas.
Let’s see where this project goes, I hope you join me for the ride!
